Introit. “The Light of the World is Jesus” P. P. Bliss (1875)
Call to Worship: Cleanse our Spirits, Let us Walk in God’s Light
Scripture Mark 1:21-28. Jeff Diehl
Hymn “Light of the World”. pg. 68
Light of the World, come near and bless your children here below
Who in your house your name confess on us your grace bestow.
Light of the world, we worship you; our gifts to you we bring;
Accept our sinful hearts, O Lord, while praise to you we sing.
Liturgy for Mercy and Truth
(Singing from the Heart hymnal, with permission from the IBOC, Moravian Church in America, pg. 34).
Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.
In him is the fountain of life, and in his light we see light.
Enter into his gates with Thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him and bless his name.
For the Lord is good. His mercy is everlasting, and his truth endures to all generations.
The sacrifice which God desires is a humble spirit; O God, you will not reject a humble and repentant heart.
If we confess our sins, you are just and will keep your promise: you will forgive our sins and purify us from all wrongdoing.
Silent Confession
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, hear us.
Hear what the Lord says: I am the God who forgives your sins, and I do this because of who I am. I will not hold your sins against you. Go, and sin no more.
Having heard God’s gracious word of forgiveness, let us now profess our faith.
We believe in God as our Creator and loving heavenly Father.
We believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.
We believe in the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and Sustainer, according to the Holy Scriptures.
Glory be to the Creator, the Christ and the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Prayers of the People
Pastoral Prayer/Lord’s Prayer
Hymn 457. Immortal, Invisible. (verses 1 and 4).
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Your great name we praise.
Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light
Your angels adore you, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render, O help us to see:
The light of your splendor, your love’s majesty.
