Welcome to a season of new beginnings, renewed hope, and tenacious JOY at Calvary Moravian Church! This Advent, we invite you to join us as we embark on a journey through the themes of Advent and Christmas under the guiding question, “What Do You Fear?” Drawing from Sanctified Art, we’ll explore how we can hold fast to insistent hope in the midst of our fears and uncertainties. Together, we’ll light the candles of Advent, celebrating the hope, peace, joy, and love of the season, made possible through the God With Us.

Advent I: Lovefeast Worship Service | Sunday, November 30th

We begin our Advent season with the warm and heartfelt tradition of the Lovefeast. This special service, a Moravian tradition, will include a Moravian Sugar Cake, decaf coffee or chocolate milk, and wonderful music. Some allergen-friendly options will be available upon request! It’s a beautiful way to center ourselves in God’s love as we begin the journey through Advent.

Advent II: Worship & Neighborhood House Snack Bag Packing | Sunday, December 7th

Join us for our second Advent worship service at 10:00 AM as we continue our reflection on the theme, “What Do You Fear?” by reflecting on how we can trust God is still at work, even if we feel as though we might be running out of hope. Following the service, we will gather at 11:15 AM to pack snack bags for the Neighborhood House, an Allentown Collaborative Ministries outreach service that provides a hot breakfast and sack lunch, along with a warm place to be during the colder months on Sunday mornings. Your hands and hearts will make a difference this season as we spread hope and kindness to our neighbors.

Advent III: Worship & Field Trip to the Edgeboro Putz | Sunday, December 14th

Our third Advent service will be held at 10:00 AM, continuing our journey of reflection on hope and how, even as we might be afraid, we are called forward to be God’s joy and love in our world. After the service, we’ll embark on a festive outing to the Edgeboro Moravian Church Putz, a beloved Moravian tradition showcasing a beautiful depiction of the Christmas scene. The trip will begin at 1:00 PM. It’s a great way to engage with the Christmas story in a hands-on, visual way as we prepare our hearts for the reason of the season!

Advent IV: Worship, Holy Communion, & Longest Night Service | Sunday, December 21st

On the fourth Sunday of Advent, we will gather for a worship service at 10:00 AM that includes the celebration of Holy Communion. In this season of waiting and longing, we come together to remember God’s presence in the most challenging of times. As a Moravian congregation, we celebrate at an open table so all are welcome to join us!

At 5:00 PM, we will host our Longest Night Service, a time of reflection, healing, and prayer. This service is especially for those who may be feeling the weight of grief, loss, or loneliness during the holidays. We invite you to bring your burdens and fears to God, finding peace and light in the midst of darkness.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Lovefeast Services | Thursday, December 24th at 4:00 PM & 7:00 PM

We will celebrate the birth of Jesus and the arrival of the God With Us two candlelight Lovefeast services, held at 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. These services will be filled with familiar hymns, scripture, and the sharing of the beloved Lovefeast. All are welcome to join in this beautiful tradition as we celebrate that this Good News is louder than our fears.
